season of motherhood
‘Welcome to Artefact Motherhood. This is a collaboration of artists from around the world who have come together to share our stories of the joys and struggles of our journey. Through our writings and visual records we want to create memories that are more than photographs with dates written on the back. These are the artefacts we are leaving behind for our children and for generations to come.’
Seasons.
We long for them.
We feel refreshed by them, exhausted by them. Motherhood is really no different. Time passes and we, as mothers are always reassessing who we need to be at the moment. Our best selves being put forth like new buds on trees after a long winter. For me, motherhood has been a long journey, a long string of seasons.
My oldest and youngest child span 20 years in age so I feel most days like the old oak tree in the shade, longing for the sun. I sit in the middle of trying to be this adult confidante, cheering them on along the sidelines of their life patiently waiting for a look, a hug, any sign of connection, all the while still parenting a 9 year old daughter through the beginning days of puberty. It’s a struggle. But one I am aware of and one I wouldn’t trade for the world.
My season of motherhood these days is about self care. Working on me so that I can always bring my best mother forward, for them. Always my babies.. no matter the age. Always showering them so they can sprout and enter into their seasons with confidence, and the knowing that I love them completely.
